Power and duties of senate
11.1. The major duties and responsibilities of the Senate are:
Formulating the general goals of the College and ensuring their implementation.
Making decision, after in depth investigation, on academic issues forwarded to it and following up its implementation.
Approving the academic calendar of the College.
Approving strategic plan of the College.
Establishing different standing committees and follow up their performance.
Determining conditions on which degrees, diplomas and certificates are awarded or revoked.
Deciding the scope or limit of the relationship of the College with other institutions.
Awarding senior academic ranks.
Deciding on education fee
Approve new academic programs and their curricula and supervise academic units to ensure the relevance and quality of education and research.
Legislate and ensure proper implementation of the institution’s legislation related to all academic and research matters.
Determine an institution-wide framework for quality enhancement and student assessment.
Advise the President, upon request, on appointments of academic office holders.
Decide on the type, number, membership, and responsibilities of its specialized committees.
Award honorary degrees and other academic prizes to persons with outstanding
achievements meriting recognition by the institution, upon request by the President.
Perform other responsibilities which may be given to it in other laws of the
institution or may be referred to it by the President.
11.2. Sessions of the Senate
The Senate shall determine its regular and extraordinary sessions in its own rules of procedures and internal regulations, which shall also include disciplinary rules of its members.
The Senate may hold extraordinary sessions upon the request of the President, or one-third of its members.
The President shall ensure that senate sessions are well-facilitated and prepared for, properly documented and the documentation kept in order, and are exhaustive in the discussion of issues; and that Senate decisions are properly communicated and implemented.
The Senate shall have a quorum when more than half of its members attend and shall make decisions by simple majority votes, and in case of a tie, the chairperson shall have a casting vote.
The Senate, consistent with its mandate, shall devote some of its sessions to evaluations of the academic performance of the academic units, of its committees, and its own performance.
The Senate at its discretion may invite resource persons it deems necessary to any of its sessions.
11.3. Communication of Senate Decisions
The Deans of college shall call a meeting of the Academic Commission within 7 days of every Senate meeting for the purpose of reporting on the outcomes of the Senate session and reports heard during the meeting.
